Our take

Happy Scribe is the polished European answer to Sonix — 120+ languages, a clean editor, and a tiered subscription that escalates fast. The free 10 minutes is more demo than usable tier, and per-minute the AI rate ends up higher than dedicated APIs like Gladia or Whisper. Where it earns its keep: the subtitle workflow and the optional human polish layer.

In depth

Happy Scribe is a Dublin-based transcription and subtitling platform that's earned a strong reputation across European media, podcasting, and content teams. The product covers automated transcription (claimed 85-95% accuracy depending on audio), professional human transcription (up to 99% at $2/min), and a subtitle generation flow that exports SRT, VTT, SBV, and other timed formats.

The 120+ language support is the headline — wider than Sonix or Trint — and the editor is well-designed for finding, highlighting, and exporting quotes. Plans are minute-capped subscriptions: Basic at $17/mo includes 120 minutes, Pro at $29/mo gets 300, Business at $49/mo gets 600, and overage tops up at a per-minute rate.

The mobile app is decent for capture on the go, and the AI Notetaker joins Zoom/Meet/Teams calls and produces meeting summaries. Where it loses on price: developers comfortable with an API can get per-hour pricing far below Happy Scribe's per-minute math through raw Whisper or Gladia.

The minute caps also bite — a podcaster transcribing 90 minutes per week on Basic blows through the cap in a couple of weeks. Best for creators who want a polished GUI, multilingual content producers, journalists doing interview-heavy work, anyone valuing the human polish option. Wrong fit for developers and high-volume operations that can pay much less per hour via API.
