Inside ChatGPT and Claude
Use Slice in ChatGPT and Claude
Attach an episode in a chat and get captioned short clips back. Add Slice once, sign in, and ask. Pick the clips you want, change the captions by saying so, and download them from the chat.
Add Slice to ChatGPT
You need ChatGPT Plus or higher and a Slice account. Attach the video in the chat and ChatGPT passes it straight to Slice.
- Open Plugins, then choose Add
Pick "Create MCP App".
- Fill in three boxes
- Name
- Slice
- Server URL
- Authentication
- OAuth or no authentication
- Tick the box and choose Create
ChatGPT shows a warning about adding your own apps. Tick the box to say you understand, then choose Create.
- Choose Connect and sign in to Slice
A Slice page opens asking to connect chatgpt.com to Slice. Sign in with your Slice account and approve it.
- Ask for clips
In any chat, type @Slice, attach your video and say "turn this video into short clips".
Add Slice to Claude
You need a paid Claude plan and a Slice account. Claude cannot hand an attached file to Slice yet, so Slice gives you an upload link instead.
- Open Connectors
In Settings (or Customize), go to Connectors, choose Add, then "Add custom connector".
- Fill in two boxes
- Name
- Slice
- URL
- Choose "Sign in when needed"
Claude asks you to sign in to Slice the first time a clip tool is used.
- Ask for clips
Say "turn my episode into short clips". Claude replies with an upload link: open it, drop your video in, then come back to the chat.
What you can say
Plain sentences work. These are the ones people use most.
- “Turn this video into clips”
- Slice reads the whole episode and comes back with the moments worth posting, each with a title.
- “Is it ready?”
- Tells you where it is. A long episode takes a few minutes, and you can keep chatting.
- “Make clips 1 and 3”
- Cuts and captions the ones you picked, and gives you a download link for each.
- “Make the captions bigger”
- Changes the clip you just made. "Move them up" and "no title" work too.
- “What caption styles are there?”
- Shows the looks you can pick from, with a preview of each.
- “Transcribe this”
- Turns a recording into text. Free, and it needs no Slice account.
What it costs
Making clips uses your Slice plan, the same one as on the website: $14.99 a month or $149 a year, and the first 3 days are free. There is nothing extra to pay for using it in a chat.
Turning a recording into text is free and needs no Slice account, up to a daily limit.
On their side, ChatGPT needs ChatGPT Plus or higher, and Claude needs a paid Claude plan. That is paid to them, not to us.
What Slice receives
- The video you attach or upload. It goes into your Slice account, the same as an upload on the website.
- What ChatGPT or Claude asks Slice to do: which clips to make, or how to change the captions. Not the rest of your conversation.
- Your Slice sign-in, so the clips land in your account. Remove Slice from ChatGPT or Claude and it stops having access.

If something goes wrong
It won’t sign me in
Use the email you use for Slice. No account yet? The sign-in page lets you make one, and the free days start then. If the Slice page closed before you approved it, remove Slice from the app and add it again.
My video is too big to attach
Say “give me an upload link instead”. The link takes videos up to 3 hours and 2GB, uploads straight from your computer, and works for two hours. If it runs out, ask for a new one.
Claude gave me a link instead of taking my file
That is expected. Claude cannot pass attached files to connectors yet, so Slice gives you an upload link. Open it, drop the video in, then say “is it ready?” in the chat.
A YouTube link didn’t work
Links to YouTube and other web pages are not supported in a chat. Attach the video file or use the upload link.
The chat doesn’t seem to use Slice
In ChatGPT, type @Slice at the start of the message. In Claude, check Slice is switched on in the chat’s connectors menu. Still stuck? Help has a way to reach a person.
Questions
Can ChatGPT make clips from my podcast?
Yes, once you add Slice as an app. Attach the episode in a chat, type @Slice and ask for short clips. Slice finds the moments worth posting, then cuts and captions the ones you pick. You need ChatGPT Plus or higher and a Slice account, and the first 3 days of Slice are free.
Can Claude make short clips from a video?
Yes, once you add Slice as a custom connector on a paid Claude plan. Ask for clips and Claude gives you an upload link for the video, because Claude cannot pass attached files to connectors. Once the video is in, you pick clips and change the captions in the chat.
How much does it cost?
Making clips uses your Slice plan, the same one as on the website: $14.99 a month or $149 a year, with the first 3 days free. There is nothing extra for using it in a chat. Turning a recording into text is free.
How long can the video be?
Up to 3 hours and 2GB, the same as on the website. If a chat will not take a big file, ask Slice for an upload link and drop the video in there.
Do I have to sign in?
To make clips, yes. You sign in to Slice once when you connect, so the clips go into your own account. Turning a recording into text needs no account.
What does Slice see from my chat?
Only what ChatGPT or Claude sends to Slice: the video, and requests like which clips to make or how to change the captions. Not the rest of your conversation.
Where do the clips end up?
In your Slice account, the same as clips made on the website. The chat gives you a download link for each one, and you can open any of them in the editor later.
Rather do it on the website? Shorts by Slice does the same thing in the browser, on the same plan.
