Free OpusClip alternatives: what each free plan really gives
OpusClip’s free plan gives you 60 minutes of video a month, and every clip carries its watermark. If you are looking for something free instead, this is what the other clippers’ free plans let you actually take away: how much video, whether you can export, and whether your clip comes out stamped.
Plainly, first: we make Shorts by Slice, and it is not free to download from. You can bring in up to 3 videos and find and edit the clips with no card; downloading starts a 3-day trial with a card, then it costs $14.99 a month. Nothing is ever stamped on the video. Compared from published pricing, limits, features and user reviews, checked 30 September 2026. We did not test the others hands-on.
Shorts by Slice turns a long podcast or stream into captioned vertical clips. $14.99 a month. Up to 3 videos free with no card; downloading starts a 3-day trial.

| Tool | What the free plan gives | Can you export? | Watermark | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OpusClip | 60 minutes of source video a month (60 credits) | Yes, at 1080p, within 3 days | Yes | One hour of video a month, and every clip carries its watermark. |
| Vizard | 60 credits a month; uploads up to 60 minutes and 1GB | Yes, at 720p, up to 10 minutes long; files kept 3 days | Yes | 720p and a watermark. The best-reviewed tool here, so a fair place to try the idea. |
| Klap | One video, no card | Yes | None, per its tool page | One video in total, so it is a trial rather than a plan. |
| Choppity | 1 hour of AI analysis a month; projects kept 3 days | Its plan table shows none on Free | Its own pages disagree | You can see what it finds in an hour of video, but the plan table shows no exports. |
| Riverside | 2 hours of recording, once; Magic Clips included | Yes, at 720p | Yes | Built around recording in Riverside. The 2 hours are a one-off, not monthly. |
| Descript | 60 media minutes a month, 100 AI credits once; clip-making marked "Limited" | Yes, at 720p | Not stated for Free (its paid plans say watermark-free) | A full editor more than a clipper, and the AI credits do not refill. |
| Eklipse | Scan a recent stream and preview the moments | No: exporting needs Premium | None on Premium | A preview, not a free plan. |
| StreamLadder | The clip editor, converter and downloader | Yes, for clips you edit by hand | None on basic editing; Starter features on Free add one | No AI clipping on Free: ClipGPT is on Creator, £23 a month. |
| Submagic | No free plan; you can try it without a card | Not on a free plan | None, on any tier | Long videos need the Magic Clips add-on, $19 a month, on top of a plan. |
| Shorts by Slice | Up to 3 videos with no card: find and edit the clips | Downloading starts a 3-day trial, with a card | Never, trial included | Cancel within the 3 days and you pay nothing; then $14.99 a month. |

Which one, for what
To try AI clipping without paying, Vizard’s free plan is the fairest test: 60 credits a month from the best-reviewed tool we compared, at 720p and with a watermark.
- For one clean clip with no watermark, Klap’s free video.
- For a stream you only want to edit by hand, StreamLadder’s free editor.
- To see what a clipper finds before paying, Choppity’s free hour, knowing the plan table shows no exports.
- If you record in Riverside already, its free plan includes Magic Clips on the recording you make there.
- If you cut long episodes every week, no free plan will carry you: they stop at about an hour a month. That is where a flat price beats a free one.
Where Slice fits, and where it does not
Slice is for the last case in that list. It takes an episode or stream up to 3 hours long, finds the clips, and lets you export a dozen at once with one email and one zip. There is no cap on videos, and nothing is ever stamped on the video. It costs $14.99 a month or $149 a year. You can try it on up to 3 videos with no card; downloading starts a 3-day trial with a card.
Where it loses to the free plans above: there is no free tier to download from, it does not post or schedule, and its caption fonts cover Latin scripts and Hebrew only.
Free Slice tools, no sign-up
- Crop a video to vertical in your browser: drag the crop or use a blurred fill, and download an MP4. Nothing is uploaded.
- YouTube Shorts safe-zone checker: see what the buttons and caption will cover before you post.
- Free transcription: one recording a day, up to 90 minutes, in English, as TXT, SRT and VTT.
None of these finds clips for you. They are the free parts of the job.
Or do it inside ChatGPT
If you were going to paste your episode into ChatGPT anyway, there is a way to get the clips there. Add Slice to ChatGPT once, attach the video in a chat and type “@Slice turn this video into short clips”. Slice lists the moments it found with their lengths and opening lines; reply with the numbers you want and you get download links for vertical clips with captions and a hook title. Clips need a Slice plan or the free trial, the same as on the website.
Can ChatGPT make clips from my video? has a real run from upload to finished files. The full steps are in how to make podcast clips with ChatGPT, and adding Slice takes a couple of minutes with the setup guide.
