Guide
Turn a podcast into TikToks, Reels and Shorts inside ChatGPT
· by the Slice team, who make the plugin
The short answer
Make the clips once and use them everywhere: with the Slice plugin in ChatGPT, one episode becomes vertical 1080×1920 clips with captions and a hook title, which suit TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts alike. What changes between the apps is where their buttons sit and what the post says. In the same chat you can move or resize the captions (“move the captions up”), reword or remove the hook title, and ask ChatGPT which clip to post first and for a caption and title for each app.
New to the plugin? Set up Slice in ChatGPT or Claude first. It takes a couple of minutes.
What changes between TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
The file doesn’t. The things worth checking are the buttons each app lays over your video and the words you post with it. Here is what to ask for in the chat for each one.
| App | Same clip file? | Check before posting | Ask ChatGPT for |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Yes, 1080×1920 | TikTok safe zone | A short caption and a few hashtags |
| Instagram Reels | Yes, 1080×1920 | Reels safe zone | A caption with a first line that works before “more” |
| YouTube Shorts | Yes, 1080×1920 | Shorts safe zone | A title and a one-line description |
If the captions clash with one app’s buttons, move them for every app: one clip that sits clear everywhere is less to keep track of than three versions.
How do you go from one episode to posts on all three apps?
- Make the clips
Attach the episode, ask @Slice to turn it into short clips, and pick the moments you want by number. Each clip comes back as one vertical 1080×1920 file that suits all three apps.
The full walkthrough is in how to make podcast clips with ChatGPT.
- Check the clip against each app’s buttons
TikTok, Reels and Shorts each lay their own buttons and text over the bottom and right of the video. Open a clip in one of the free safe-zone checkers and see whether the captions sit clear.

- Move or resize the captions if they clash
Ask in the same chat. Slice saves the change on the clip and renders it again, and ChatGPT gives you a new download link.
Move the captions on clip 3 up and make them a bit bigger - Set the hook title
Every clip starts with a title card taken from the clip. Keep it, reword it to suit the app, or turn it off.
Change the hook title on clip 1 to "Bert the turtle knew what to do" - Ask ChatGPT which clip to post first, and for the post text
The clips and their titles are already in the conversation, so ChatGPT can compare them and write a title and caption for each app without you pasting anything.
Which clip should I post first? Write a TikTok caption and a YouTube Shorts title for it - Download and post
Save each clip from its link and upload it in each app with its text. Slice does not post or schedule for you.
Which changes can you ask for after a clip is made?
Each of these saves the change on the clip and renders it again. You get a fresh download link a few minutes later.
| To change | Type something like |
|---|---|
| Caption size | Make the captions bigger |
| Caption position | Move the captions up |
| Caption style | Use the Headline style on clip 2 |
| Hook title wording | Change the hook title to "Nobody tells you this" |
| Hook title on or off | Turn the hook title off |
Not sure which style? Show me the caption styles lists all 29 with a preview picture of each.
Can ChatGPT write the post text too?
Yes, and this is where doing it in a chat pays off. The list of moments, their titles and opening lines are already in the conversation, so ChatGPT can reason about them without you copying anything across. In our test chat we asked which of two clips to post first; it picked one, explained why (it got to the point faster), and then wrote a title and caption for it and offered versions for different apps.
Read what it writes before you post it. It is a draft, and you know your audience better than it does.
What does a weekly routine look like?
- New chat, attach the episode, “@Slice turn this video into short clips”.
- Pick three to five moments by number (up to 10 at a time).
- Check one clip against the safe zones; if the captions clash, ask to move them on all of them.
- Ask for the posting order and the text for each app.
- Download, then schedule the posts in each app or your usual scheduler.
Keeping one chat per episode means you can come back to it later in the week and ask for another clip or a change without starting again.
Questions
Do I need a different file for TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
No. All three take vertical 9:16 video, and Slice makes each clip at 1080×1920. What differs is where each app puts its buttons, so check the captions sit clear of them before you post.
Can ChatGPT post the clips for me?
Not through Slice. Slice gives you the files and ChatGPT can write the text; you upload them yourself in each app.
Can I change a clip after it is made?
Yes, in the same chat. Ask for bigger or smaller captions, captions moved up or down, a different caption style, or the hook title reworded or turned off. Slice renders the clip again and you get a new link.
How many caption styles are there?
29. Ask "show me the caption styles" and Slice lists them with a short description and a preview picture of each.
How much does it cost?
Making clips needs a Slice plan: $14.99 a month or $149 a year, after a 3-day free trial. ChatGPT writing the post text is part of your ChatGPT plan.
