The analytics dashboard has improved a lot since Apple shipped its subscription analytics view in 2023 — you can now see paid subscribers, free trials, followers, total listeners, per-episode performance, retention curves, and geography down to country and city. It still doesn't match Spotify for Podcasters on demographic depth or audience overlap, but the basics are reliable now. For creators, Apple Podcasts Connect is mandatory rather than optional. The platform consistently captures 25-40% of global listening hours depending on the segment, and not being there means missing the audience entirely. The downsides are operational: submission approval can stretch from days to over a week during busy periods, and metadata changes propagate slowly. Best practice is to submit early, treat it as your foundational distribution channel, and don't expect Apple to do anything to actively surface your show without external traffic.
