Guide for podcasters
How to share a podcast on Instagram
Three ways, and most shows use all three: a Story shared straight from Spotify or Apple Podcasts, a link sticker that takes people to the episode, and Reels made from the best moments. Here is each one, in the apps’ own words.
The short answer
Share the episode to your Story from Spotify or Apple Podcasts, and add a link sticker so a tap opens the episode. Then post a short captioned clip of the best moment as a Reel, with your guest as a collaborator. Audio-only shows need a picture for the Reel: a vertical clip with big captions and your cover or your faces.
How to share a podcast to your Instagram Story from Spotify
Spotify’s help page on sharing covers podcasts as well as music: Share songs, albums, artists, playlists, podcasts, and your profile from the app.
On a phone, go to the episode, tap the three dots, then Share, and choose Instagram Stories from the apps it offers. Instagram opens with the episode on a Story, ready to post.
If you host with Spotify for Creators, the same link is in your dashboard: Episodes, the three dots beside the episode, then Share episode. Spotify’s own line to creators is plain:
“The best way to grow your audience is to share your show.”
How to share an Apple Podcasts episode on Instagram
Apple Podcasts shares a link rather than a card: In the Podcasts app, you can share a podcast show or episode as a link.
Open the episode, tap its Share button and pick Instagram in the share sheet. (On a show’s page it is the three dots, then Share.)
One thing Apple’s help page describes that Spotify’s doesn’t: sharing from a moment. Start the episode playing, open the Now Playing screen, tap the three dots, then Share, and change “From Start” to the current time. Anyone who opens it lands on the line you meant, which is handy when a guest wants to share their part.
How to add a link to your podcast in an Instagram Story
Use the link sticker. When people tap on this link sticker in your story, they'll be redirected to the linked website.
To add one, open the Story editor. In Instagram’s words, When you share a photo or video to your story or record a reel, you can add stickers by tapping
Stickers at the top; Link is one of the stickers. Paste the episode link, then change the sticker’s text to something people will tap, such as “Listen to the full episode”.
Apple’s marketing page for podcasters gives the same advice:
“Be sure to include links to your podcast in social posts, bios, and even Instagram Story stickers.”
Stories don’t last: With stories, you can share photos and videos that disappear from your profile, Feed and messages after 24 hours, unless you add them to your profile as story highlights.
Make an “Episodes” highlight on your profile and add each episode’s Story to it, so the links are still there for anyone who finds you next month.
How to post a podcast on Instagram Reels
A Story reaches people who already follow you. Reels are where strangers find a show, and they are video. Apple’s advice to podcasters is to post pieces of every episode:
“Make a habit of plugging your podcast and regularly sharing excerpts and catchy sound bites from each episode.”
For an audio-only show that means making a picture for the moment: big captions so it works with the sound off, and your cover art or your hosts’ faces so people know whose show it is. Here is one, a real Slice render with its sound:
On shape and length, Instagram’s help page says You can upload a reel with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 9:16.
(9:16 fills a phone screen). Our social video specs have the rest, read 2 October 2026:
| Format | Length | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Story | Up to 60 seconds per story clip; longer videos are split into several clips. | 9:16 |
| Reel | Up to 20 minutes, recorded and edited in the app. Reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new audiences. | Between 1.91:1 and 9:16 |
What podcasters report from Reels, in their own words, is views first and listeners slowly:
“When I create 30-60 second reels from our hour show, they get around 600-1,500 views on Instagram.”
“A Reel might get 10k views and net you 5 new subscribers.”
“Probably 95% of my audience is audio. It’s because Shorts/Reels are one of my biggest funnels for bringing in new listeners.”
So count a Reel on its own terms, then give the people who liked it a way to the episode: share the Reel to your Story and put the link sticker on it. Before you post, check the captions sit clear of Instagram’s buttons with our free Reels safe zone checker.
Post it with your guest
Instagram’s collab posts put one Reel on two profiles. In Instagram’s words: If the other account accepts, the post will also be shown on their profile and be distributed to their followers in Instagram feed.
For an interview show this may be the most useful step here, because the guest’s audience already cares about the guest:
“Guests sharing the episode with their audience is what broke ours out of that exact rut. Social clips alone never moved the needle for us either.”
“We started making a share kit for guests with pre-written posts. That bumped shares way more than just asking.”
When you post the Reel, tag the guest’s account as a collaborator. Once they accept, it is on both profiles. Send the guest the finished clip and a line they can post. More on that in how to make clips your guests will share.
Posting an audio-only podcast as video
Instagram has no audio-only post, so every Reel needs a picture. The picture can be the words themselves, your cover art, or your hosts’ and guests’ photos with their names. The same example show, three more ways:
Magazine cover
Pull quote
Record sleeve
That is what Slice Audio is for. Slice Audio: video clips for audio-only podcasts, part of Shorts by Slice. Upload the episode’s audio, and it lists the moments that stand on their own and draws each as a captioned vertical clip, with your cover, colours and, if you like, your hosts’ and guests’ photos. Have video too? Shorts by Slice crops to whoever is talking.

How to share a podcast on Instagram, step by step
- Share the episode to your Story from your podcast app
In Spotify, open the episode, tap the three dots, then Share, and pick Instagram Stories. In Apple Podcasts, tap the Share button on the episode and pick Instagram. Apple can also share from a point in the episode, from the Now Playing screen.
- Add a link sticker
In the Story editor, tap Stickers at the top, choose Link, paste the episode link and change the sticker text to something like “Listen to the full episode”. Tapping it takes people to the episode.
- Make a clip for Reels
Reels are videos, so an audio-only episode needs a picture. Pick a moment that makes sense on its own and turn it into a vertical clip with big captions and your cover art or your hosts’ faces.
- Post the clip as a Reel, with your guest as a collaborator
Upload the clip as a Reel, write a caption that says what the episode is about, and invite the guest as a collaborator so it also shows on their profile and to their followers.
- Share the Reel to your Story too
Share the Reel to your Story and add the link sticker there, so people who watch the clip have a tap to the full episode. Keep the Story for 24 hours or add it to a highlight called Episodes.
