Folge is one of those niche desktop tools that exists for a specific kind of person, one who's tired of subscription pricing and wants software that just runs on their machine. The product captures step-by-step screenshots as you click through a process, then auto-generates a documentation guide you can export as PDF, HTML, or share with annotations. Pricing is unusual for 2026: a free version with usable feature set, and a perpetual one-time license starting at around $75-$110 depending on tier and number of users. No subscription, no cloud upload, no telemetry by default. The honest assessment is that Folge isn't really a podcast tool. It shows up in podcast directories because creators use it to document their own workflows: 'here's how I export from Logic and upload to my host', 'here's how I publish a new episode', 'here's the process my editor follows'. For that use case it's good, and the local-first nature means you don't worry about whether the company will still exist in five years. The trade-offs are obvious. There's no Mac/Windows/Linux web client, no team collaboration features, no shared workspace, no cloud-based versioning.
