Toastmasters has been running public speaking practice clubs since 1924 and Pathways is the current digital learning system layered on top, updated in October 2024 with an improved Base Camp featuring easier navigation, automatic level submissions, mobile access, and assistive-tech accessibility. You pick one of six paths — Dynamic Leadership, Engaging Humor, Motivational Strategies, Persuasive Influence, Presentation Mastery, or Visionary Communication — and work through projects covering 300+ unique competencies, culminating in speeches you deliver at your local club. The club provides the audience, the structured evaluation, and the long-running accountability that no AI app can replicate. For podcasters who interview live, host events, or speak from stage, the live-audience reps are exactly what's missing from app-based training. Pricing is genuinely cheap for what you get — around $60 twice a year for membership, including your first Pathways path. The catch is the format. Clubs meet weekly or biweekly, in person or on Zoom, and the experience depends heavily on your specific club. Some are excellent; some aren't. You can't complete Pathways purely on your phone — the speeches need an audience. For anyone who can fit a regular meeting in, no other tool in this category gives you that much practice for that little money.
