Podverse is open-source and one of the few projects that takes Podcasting 2.0 seriously enough to actually implement it end-to-end. Podverse occupies a specific cultural slot in podcasting: it's the project that takes the open standards seriously when most of the commercial ecosystem treats them as marketing copy. The app and the host are both open source, which means you can run your own instance, audit the code, or contribute fixes rather than just hoping the vendor cares about the same things you do. The value tag lets listeners stream micropayments to creators in real time over the Lightning Network, which is the closest thing podcasting has to a working creator-payment model that bypasses Apple, Spotify, and the ad market. Chapters, transcripts, soundbites, and the cross-app comments protocol all work the way the Podcasting 2.0 spec describes them, which is a higher bar than most platforms clear. If you care about that ecosystem you already know about Podverse, and if you don't, the broader experience will feel niche. The listener base is a small fraction of what mainstream apps pull in, and most of those listeners arrived through the open-source community or the Bitcoin world rather than through general podcast discovery. The monetisation pitch beyond V4V is intentionally light. Treat Podverse as a reference implementation, a statement of values, and a small but genuinely engaged community, not as a primary distribution play that will move your overall download numbers.
