Every pack: recordings up to 3 hours, no daily limit, Word and Notion export, notes with timestamps. A 47-minute lecture uses 47 minutes.
How do I transcribe a lecture recording?
Record the lecture on your phone or laptop, then upload the file here (MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV and most other audio or video formats, up to 600MB). You get the transcript on screen in a few minutes, split into paragraphs, with speakers labelled when more than one person talks, plus .txt, .srt and .vtt files by email. It is free for one recording a day up to 90 minutes: the first needs no account, then a free account. Slice Transcribe hour packs (5 hours for $2.99, 15 hours for $6.99 or 40 hours for $14.99) are paid once, with no subscription, and the hours never expire. A recording uses its length rounded up to the minute, so a 47-minute lecture uses 47 minutes. They take recordings up to 3 hours with no daily limit, add notes with a [12:34] timestamp on every paragraph, Word (.docx) export and Copy for Notion, and keep your transcripts on your account. Any pack can be bought as a gift. It detects the language, so French, Spanish, German and other lectures work; accuracy is best in English. Audio is deleted after 7 days; free transcripts after 30 days.

Can I transcribe a 2-hour lecture?
Yes. With an hour pack a single recording can be up to 3 hours, so a double session or a long practical goes in as one file. The 40-hour semester pack is about twenty two-hour lectures, with no daily limit for the week before an exam, and whatever you do not use stays on your account.
On the free tool the limit is 90 minutes a recording and one recording a day. A two-hour lecture can still be done free: split it into two files with any audio editor and send one today and one tomorrow.
Does it work for French lectures?
Yes. The language is detected from the recording and the transcript comes back in that language: a French lecture in French, a Spanish one in Spanish. You do not have to choose a language first. The tool tells you which language it detected.
Accuracy is best in English. In every language, specialist vocabulary is where a transcript is most likely to be wrong: drug names, Latin anatomy, formulas, acronyms and names of people. Treat those as the words to check against your slides. A clear recording helps more than anything else: close to the speaker, away from the projector fan.
Can I export to Word or Notion?
With an hour pack, three exports are built for revising:
- Word (.docx): a heading for every ten minutes, so Word’s navigation pane works as a table of contents, and a bold timestamp at the start of each paragraph.
- Copy for Notion: one click puts Markdown on your clipboard; paste it into a Notion page and you get the title, the ten-minute headings and timestamped paragraphs as blocks.
- Notes: a plain text file with a timestamp like [12:34] on every paragraph, so you can find the moment in the recording.
Every transcript, free or paid, also comes as .txt, and as .srt and .vtt subtitle files you can load beside the recording in a video player.
[00:00] Good morning. Today we start the chapter on…
[04:12] So the first question is…
(the format of the notes; your lecture’s words go here)
Is it private?
Your recording is uploaded to private storage that is not readable from the web, and sent to AssemblyAI, the speech-to-text service we use, to be transcribed. It is not used to train anything. The audio is deleted after 7 days.
The transcript opens from a private link that only you are given. Free transcripts are deleted after 30 days. Transcripts made with hour-pack hours stay on your account until you delete them. You can delete any transcript yourself, immediately, from its page. More in our privacy policy.
What does it not do?
It does not summarise the lecture or write flashcards for you: you get what was said, in order, with timestamps. It does not read slides or the board. And it is a transcript made by software, so read the parts you will quote or learn from with the recording beside you.
