How do I transcribe a sermon?
Upload the sermon recording here: the video from your livestream, or the audio from your sound desk or podcast (MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV and most other audio or video formats, up to 600MB). In a few minutes you get the transcript on screen in paragraphs, with each speaker labelled when more than one person talks, plus .txt, .srt and .vtt files by email. It is free for one recording a day up to 90 minutes, which is most sermons: the first needs no account, then a free account. For whole services and weekly use, Slice Transcribe hour packs (5 hours for $4.99, 15 hours for $9.99 or 40 hours for $24.99) are paid once, with no subscription, and the hours never expire. They take recordings up to 3 hours, add notes with a [12:34] timestamp on every paragraph, Word (.docx) export and Copy for Notion, and keep your transcripts on your account. It detects the language, so sermons in Spanish, Portuguese, French and other languages come back in that language; accuracy is best in English. It does not summarise the sermon or write discussion questions: you get what was preached, in order.

What is a sermon transcript for?
A sermon is said once and heard once. Written down, it does more work through the week:
- Notes for the website or the app, so someone who missed Sunday can read it.
- Small groups: leaders can quote the exact words rather than their memory of them.
- Members who read rather than listen, including deaf and hard-of-hearing members, and anyone following in a second language.
- Quotes for Monday’s email and your posts, copied rather than retyped.
- An archive you can search: what did we preach on forgiveness two years ago?
Where do I get the sermon file?
Wherever the service was recorded. If you livestream to your own YouTube channel, open YouTube Studio, go to Content, and choose Download from the video’s options menu. Streaming software such as OBS keeps a recording on the computer that ran the stream. Many sound desks record the mix to a USB stick, and if you publish a sermon podcast, that MP3 is the cleanest audio you have.
A clean feed from the desk is better than a phone in the room: the transcript is only as clear as what the microphone heard.
What do you get?
Free: the transcript on screen in paragraphs, a new paragraph whenever someone else speaks (the reader, a guest speaker, a Q&A), and .txt, .srt and .vtt files. The .srt and .vtt are subtitles, timed to the words, for the full sermon video on YouTube or your website.
With an hour pack:
- Notes: a timestamp like [12:34] on every paragraph, so a small-group leader can find the moment in the recording.
- Word (.docx): a heading every ten minutes and a bold timestamp on each paragraph, ready to edit into sermon notes.
- Copy for Notion: paste into a Notion page and get headings and timestamped paragraphs.
What does it not do?
It does not summarise the sermon, write discussion questions or a devotional, or look up the passages. You get what was preached, in order, with timestamps. It is made by software, so read the parts you will publish or quote with the recording beside you, especially names from Scripture.
Want short clips of the sermon too?
The same recording can become a week of short, captioned clips for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Slice Shorts for churches takes the YouTube link to the sermon, finds the moments that stand on their own and captions them. Your first clip is free, no card. There is a step-by-step guide with a real sermon.
