Let the recording write the notes

Upload the sermon recording to Slice Transcribe. With an hour pack, a transcript that names Bible passages gets sermon tools: every passage listed with the time it was read and a link to read it, the sermon marked in parts at the preacher’s pauses, the paragraphs you star kept as key quotes, and, when you ask, an outline and small-group questions written by AI from the transcript and labelled as AI. They come out as a Sermon notes Word file or a page to print.

The same recording can become a week of short captioned clips for Reels, Shorts and TikTok with Slice Shorts for churches. Paste the YouTube link to the sermon; your first clip is free.

Questions

Is it really free? Do I need to give an email?
Free, with no email, no account and no watermark. Everything happens in your browser. There is a small credit line at the foot of the page, and you can turn it off.
How do I save the sermon notes as a PDF?
Press Print or save as PDF. In Chrome and Edge, set Destination to Save as PDF. On a Mac in Safari, use the PDF button in the print window. On an iPhone or iPad, choose Print, then share the preview to Files. The sheet is already sized for the paper, so leave scaling at 100% and margins at default or none.
Can I add our church name and logo?
Yes. Type the church name and add a logo file (PNG or JPG). The logo never leaves your device: it is not uploaded and it is not in the share link. With the ink saver on, it prints in greyscale.
Which layout is best for kids?
Ages 3 to 6 is for children who cannot write yet: a big space to draw, the sermon’s words with pictures to tick when they hear them, and words to colour in. Ages 7 to 12 is for confident readers: a word search made from this sermon’s words, count the times you hear a word, fill in the big idea, a question, and a prayer box.
Can people type their notes on a phone?
Yes. Set the sheet up, press Copy link and send it to your church. Anyone who opens it gets the same sheet and can type into it, then print it or save it as a PDF. Their notes stay on their own phone. Kids’ sheets are for pencils and crayons, so they have nothing to type into.
Does it print the Bible verses?
No, only the references, such as John 10:1–18. Most modern translations are under copyright, so the sheet gives the reference and the tool links each one to Bible Gateway, where you can read it in your own translation.
A4 or US Letter?
Both. A4 is the paper size in the UK, Europe, Africa, Australia and most of the world; US Letter is the size in the US and Canada. Pick yours and the page is laid out for it, so nothing is cut off when it prints.
What is a Cornell sermon notes sheet?
Cornell notes split the page: notes on the right during the sermon, key words and questions on the left afterwards, and a short summary at the foot. Later, cover the right side and use the left column to remember what was said. It works well for small-group leaders preparing a study.
What goes on a sermon notes sheet

The sheets that work ask for a little, in the order the sermon gives it:

Before it starts

The title, the date, who is preaching and the passage. Printed in, these turn a blank page into Sunday’s page, and they let someone find the recording later.

During

The big idea in one sentence, then a space for each main point. Most sermons have two to four; the classic layout lets you choose. Cornell gives one wide column instead, for preachers who do not number their points.

After

A verse to remember, one thing to do this week, something to pray about, and the questions still open. That last box is often the most useful: it is what a small group can pick up on Wednesday.

How churches use sermon notes

In the bulletin or on the seats. Print the classic or lined sheet with this Sunday’s title and passage already on it. The ink saver keeps a few hundred copies cheap on the office photocopier.

On phones. Copy the link into the church app, the weekly email or the livestream description. People type into the same sheet and keep their notes as a PDF.

For children in the main service. Ages 3–6 for children who listen with a crayon in hand; ages 7–12 for those who can follow along and find the words.

For small groups. Add the small-group page, or use Cornell: the left-hand column becomes the leader’s list of questions. One church media volunteer put the need this way:

“I think what would be helpful it to make small group study guides to go deeper with the sermon and make social media posts that both tease it before hand and tie back to it after.”xonk on r/churchtech, 6 August 2025
Sermon notes for kids, by age

Ages 3 to 6

Most can’t write yet, so the sheet asks them to draw, to tick a picture when they hear its word, and to colour in. Put the words you know the sermon will use in the word list: sheep, shepherd, boat, bread. A grown-up line at the foot gives parents one question to ask on the way home.

Ages 7 to 12

Readers can listen for words, so the sheet makes a word search from this sermon’s own words and a box to count the times each is said. Then a sentence for the big idea, a question of their own and a prayer to finish, because a page that only keeps hands busy is not what parents want.

Printing tips

Pick the paper you will print on: A4 and US Letter are laid out separately, so nothing is cropped. Leave scaling at 100%. For double-sided copies with the small-group page, print both pages and choose “flip on long edge”.

For hundreds of copies, use the ink saver: black text, light grey lines and no filled areas, so a photocopy stays clean. A logo prints in greyscale with the ink saver on.

This tool is looked after by Jot.Sits still through the whole sermon and remembers every point.
