What Arts covers actually do

The Moth is a moth. 99% Invisible is a grid with one yellow square in it. The Magnus Archives is a line drawing. Fresh Air is a blue block. Read Dead People is hand-lettered. There is no shared convention to work with or against, and covers here are far more likely to be drawn than photographed.

At 55 pixels

Illustration shrinks well when it is one shape and badly when it is a scene. The Moth still reads at 55 pixels because it is a silhouette. Detailed hand-lettering usually does not.
