What True Crime covers actually do

Desaturated photography, fog, woodland, a road at night, type in a thin serif or a distressed sans. Morbid, Coerced, The Piketon Massacre and Casefile all sit in the same narrow band of greys and greens. The two that break out do it by ignoring the convention completely: a white field with a purple mark, or a flat yellow.

At 55 pixels

Dark on dark is the genre risk. At 55 pixels the atmospheric photograph becomes a single dark square, and if the type is also dark there is nothing left to read. True Crime has the shortest names of any genre, which helps, but only if the name is set against something.
